Dentico has a chat with one of our new locum dentists Dr Isaac Maasdorp.
Tell us more about you.
I was born in the UK and moved to South Africa at the age of 2. I grew up in the Northern Cape. I studied at the University of the Western Cape and I graduated in 2020. My community service year was spent in Kimberley last year, and since completing that, I’ve worked in Strand and in the Cape Town CBD.

How have your previous experiences added to your development as a dentist?
I’ve noticed that many dentists have different methods and techniques to treat their patients, but one thing that always remained the same was patient care and doing what’s best in their interests. So I take that from my past experiences and try to provide the best possible care for anyone walking in through our door.
What do you believe you bring to the Dentico family? What made you excited to join Dentico?
I have a liking towards oral surgery and endodontics, so I enjoy challenging cases. These include root canals and wisdom removals. I think this broadens the scope of our practice and allows for more patients to be helped at Dentico. I actually heard about Dentico from a colleague and everything he said about the practice sounded very promising. After the first meeting with Dr Nichole Hendricks, I knew this is where I wanted to be.
How have your your first few weeks been at Dentico?
The first few weeks have been great! I enjoy the team and it’s a very comfortable environment to be in. The patients are very nice and I’ve only had positive experiences with them.
What emphasis do you put on the doctor-patient relationship?
Being comfortable with your dentist is probably the most important aspect when someone comes in with a problem. You want the patient to feel free to express themselves and speak about anything, and that allows for trust, which immediately eliminates anxiety and stress.
How has Dr Hendricks been as a colleague and mentor?
Dr Hendricks is amazing. She is very thorough, accurate and efficient. You can tell she has loads of experience. I enjoy working with her and she pushes me to do better everyday. I’ve learnt that it’s important to be sympathetic and caring in the field we work in because every patient walking in has an unique background and you need to offer them specialised care.
What are your goals as Dentico?
I want to be brilliant at what I do. I want every patient to leave the surgery on positive terms and with the peace of mind that they can return to us at any time if they need quality dental assistance. I hope to grow as much as I can and learn from everyone around me.
